The COCC Foundation’s Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program is presenting a lecture by James N. Mattis, a U.S. Marine Corps four-star general. He will present “Current and Future Security Challenges: Iraq, Afghanistan and Beyond,” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Redmond High School Auditorium; and at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Bend Senior High School Auditorium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. at both venues. Donations at the door will be appreciated.
Gen. Mattis is the current Commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command and Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation for NATO. He previously served as Commanding General I Marine Expeditionary Force and Commander, U.S. Marine Forces Central Command. He assumed his current assignment last November.
Gen. Mattis played a key role in the April 2004 battle of Fallujah, “Operation Vigilant Resolve,” by negotiating with the insurgent command inside of the city, as well as playing an important part in the November 2004 battle of “Fallujah, Operation Phantom Fury.”
After the 30- to 40-minute presentations, Gen. Mattis will remain to answer all questions.
